A youth skateboarding over a high jump post. We watched as he jumped over a height of 2 metres! A bicycle made for two in the Borghese Park. And I didn't fall off, Patsy!!
When Serbia refused to listen to the UN's warnings about its atrocities, the UN responded with a few well-placed bombs. Serbia listened. Notice how the neighbouring building was not touched!
When there's nothing else for the men of Belgrade to do on a sunny autumn day, they pop down to the park for a game of chess!
The Hyatt Hotel in Belgrade is so posh, it has its initial stamped into the sand of the ashtrays by the lifts!! I wonder whose job that is?
Highly recommend it, though. Gorgeous rooms, pool, salon/spa and of course, food...
These two impressive buildings are a sharp contrast to the bullet-ridden buildings a stone's throw away. Most of Sarajevo has been restored to its former glory, but some reminders of the conflict have also been left. One of these towers is home to the Woirld Bank office where Gavin is based when in town.
The Byzantine end of Sarajevo is a hive of gorgeous bazaar-like shops. Not cheap, but colourful.
Not before time...
Apparently only two things can be seen on earth from outer space. One is the Great Wall of China; the other is the Holiday Inn, Sarajevo. Known as the Sunny Side Up building, when it snows there. We enjoyed staying there, and it is just a few steps away from the World Bank office in one of the 'twin towers' nearby.
